To our new students, WELCOME TO LOVETT COLLEGE!!! (THE BEST RICE UNIVERSITY RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE EVER). We are so unbelievably excited to welcome you.

We're Kate, Ava, and Ricky, current students at Lovett and our 2026 Orientation Week Coordinators ("The Coords"). We've been working since January to prepare for the best O-Week yet! We’re sure you’re wondering what you’ll even be doing for a whole week before classes begin. O-Week is a longstanding, treasured tradition: an introduction to life at Rice and your specific college. Led by O-Week Coords and Advisors, you’ll be presented with all the necessary information an incoming student needs while participating in a wide variety of fun activities to begin forming your lifelong bonds with your fellow Lovetteers.

As ClassicO-Week approaches, keep an eye on your email! There will be plenty of content from us: your Coordinator’s Welcome, O-Week Book, and roommate pairings are in your near future! Anyways, WELCOME TO OLYMPUS! Though college might seem daunting, an epic tale of adventure and legendary triumph awaits. This legion of Lovetteers is here to help and guide you; there’s no need to hold the world on your shoulders alone. We’re here to help you find all the necessary resources you’ll need to thrive at Rice. At Lovett, you don’t have to Apollo-gise for who you are; we’re here to celebrate everyone’s uniqueness and diversity. Lovett is an exceptionally close-knit community, and a place where shared ideas and identities come together to create an accessible place of love, respect, and friendship.

Even the strongest heroes need training, and ClassicO-Week is here to do exactly that. Though we can’t teach you how to battle a hydra or ride a pegasus, we’ll introduce you to the academic, social, and interpersonal worlds of Rice. You’ll also learn all the skills and knowledge you need to succeed and to overcome any challenges that cross your path. Hercules' strength or Athena’s wisdom aren’t necessary to succeed at Rice; all you need is your own pantheon of support to take on any mystical challenge. You’ll join a passionate group of fellow heroes that will stand by your side on every battlefield. Your O-Week at Lovett is just the beginning of your own epic story.

Is Lovett moving to a new building?

Yes! For the past sixty years, Lovett was housed in "The Toaster", a brutalist building known for it's distinctive toaster-like design. However, in Fall of 2026 we will be in our brand new building just down the road from our old toaster, lovingly named "The Brick".

What are the dorms like in the new building?

The most common style of housing is a double room (meaning two students) with a private bathroom. When you get to your room on the first day, there will be a bed, desk, dresser, nightstand, and chair. Feel free to move these around as desired!

Are we getting more information?

You sure are! Our team is hard at work compiling a custom Lovett O-Week Book with all the details you'll need for a successful move-in. Included will be details and dimensions of the dorm rooms, our full advising team, a recommended packing list, and even more FAQs.

Where will I live on-campus?

All New Students are guaranteed on-campus housing for and will be housed in our new building, The Brick. Structural construction has been formally completed, and the building will receive it's finishing touches before you arrive.
